Episode 6 - They Sold their Souls to Satan

The secret of how the Hollywood "elite" can break out of blood contracts with the devil
7

We have all heard stories about famous artists who have “sold their souls to the devil” in exchange for fame and fortune. They do this by making a contract with him, many even signing it in their own blood, exchanging their eternal souls for a few years of notoriety and money. Normally, it is musicians who do this1 … people like Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Katie Perry, Bob Dylan, etc. Of course, as Christians, we know what a horrific thing this is. Almost unforgiveable.

Almost.

Fortunately, there is a well-known “secret” to breaking said contracts. First of all, Jesus says that all sins are forgivable(2), even blasphemy against Himself (Matthew 12:31-32).

Let’s pause a moment to deliberate on that statement. Reflect on how full of grace our Lord and Creator is. He is the One, Who, out of the abundance of love in His heart, wanted to share that love with people like Himself. People made in His image … People of a free will nature, who were not automatons programmed to choose Jesus every time, but who had free will to choose (or deny) Him. His motivation to create you was founded purely in love. And yet, when a non-believer wants to show utter disgust for something or express pain during an injury, he might exclaim, “Jesus Christ!” as a curse word. The Name of the Holy One becomes—on his lips—a replacement for excrement. What an insult to the One Who created him out of an abundance of love. A total blasphemy indeed. And yet, Jesus says He will forgive even that. We do not deserve such an awesome God.

Ok. Back to what I was saying: all sins are forgivable.2 So, even if you made a covenant with Satan in your blood, you can break it.

So, What’s the Secret to Breaking a Contract in Blood with Satan?

Are you ready for the “Secret?” It is very simple. It requires 3 things: Repentance, belief in Jesus, and submission to His will.

True repentance itself is 3 things: 1) a deep sorrow in your heart over your past sins (which may lead to you crying), 2) a begging of forgiveness from your Creator, and 3) a turning away from your sin. This turning away from sin is such a violent break with everything in your past and against everything in your human desires that Jesus describes it as necessitating a brutal death: a crucifixion. We are called to daily crucify (kill, strangle, murder) our flesh with its sinful desires (Luke 9:23, Romans 8:13, Galatians 5:24). That is repentance.

The second step one must take to break a blood covenant with Satan is belief in Jesus. You must believe that He is the One and Only Son of God (and God in the flesh, Who lived a perfect life that you could not live), that He was crucified for your sins, that He was buried, and that He was resurrected to life in a real, human body, in which He exists today and for all eternity. Belief in Jesus is not merely believing that He existed or that He died on a cross. It means believing that He is personally interested in you today and that He personally died for you. It means trusting in Him in this current moment, not just trusting the truth of the historical Jesus. It means trusting in Him for this current, modern-day issue you are facing. Imagine this: your neighbor says, “I’m a pilot.” You believe him. You have no reason not to. He has always seemed like a reasonable, upstanding, honest guy. That is “believing” your neighbor. Next, he says, “Come fly with me.” Now, this is something altogether different from belief. Now, he’s asking you to believe in him. You believed him when he said he was a pilot. However, now he’s asking you to take that level of trust to an altogether, radically different level: belief in. This is where “belief” becomes very personal. One type of “believing” does not require a personal commitment of sacrifice; it only requires intellectual assent. The other type (the “believing in) requires a full-fledged, headlong jump into a commitment with body and soul. It is this second form of belief (believing in) that Jesus calls us to. The greatest commandment is to love (and believe in) Jesus with our whole heart, mind, soul, and strength. Which brings us to our third point.

Third, Submission to Jesus means complete surrender. You stop doing things your way. Stop living for yourself. Start reading your Bible daily. Read His commandments and follow them doggedly. Worship Him in music, dance, and poetry. Turn off all music that is not godly. Avoid all TV, books, movies, and entertainment which do not glorify Him. Quit all addictions, whether they be alcohol, drugs, sex, cigarettes, food, or television. It means giving your life fully to Him. You must completely abandon your former life. You are a new creation! The picture is one of a bride who strikes her last name from the record and takes on the name of her husband. On the eve of the wedding, she lays herself down on the marital bed, fully trusting and fully loving him. It is a full surrender. Everything He wants, He gets. Jesus laid down His life and His body for you. Now it is your turn. He loved your life more than His own. Now it is your turn. This is where it gets fun. This is where relationship with God blossoms. Few Christians reach this stage because they are unable or unwilling to fully let go of the flesh’s desires and put their complete trust in Jesus for their daily sustenance. This is why many end up as lukewarm (unsaved) “Christians.” (Revelation 3:16).

Furthermore, this submission to Jesus requires a public acknowledgment of Him (Romans 10:9). Just as you were willing to acknowledge Satan publicly, for giving you wealth and fame, you must publicly declare that you belong to Jesus now. You are now married to the lover of your soul and you are unashamed of who knows it (Romans 1:16). He knows all your deepest, darkest thoughts and yet He still loves you! You want to tell the whole world about Him! But, if you don’t, it means you’re not in. If you are ashamed of Him, it means you don’t get it. And it means were never part of Him. If you will not acknowledge Him as the love of your life before men, neither will He acknowledge you before God (Matthew 10:32-33). And if you are not acknowledged before God (or by God), you are not saved; you will not enter His eternal presence (Matthew 7:21-23).

So, That’s It?

That’s it. That’s all there is to it. In order to break a blood contract with Satan, you must repent and surrender to Jesus.

Perhaps that doesn’t sound like a new teaching to you. Or perhaps it’s too simple. In one sense, you are right to claim that it is simple. For Jesus says you cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven unless you receive it like a child (Mark 10:14-16). The message is so simple that even a child can grasp it. So simple, in fact, that you must have a child’s heart to receive it. But, don’t let its simplicity fool you. It’s about as simple as getting into a car and pushing the “Start” button: simple for you, but there is so much going on behind the scenes which you can’t see that makes it all possible. Don’t believe that because it is simple, it is easy.

If you want to look under the hood to understand the complexity of how something as wicked and eternal as a blood covenant with Satan can be broken with a simple declaration of faith, here it is: Jesus’ blood. His blood (through your belief in Him) breaks the covenant. His blood speaks a better word (Hebrews 12:24)

Still don’t believe me? Don’t you know that the blood of Jesus is the most powerful thing in all the Earth? His blood being shed on the cross was enough to heal all disease and cover all the sins of all the people throughout all of history. How can you estimate the power and the worth of the blood of God? He is infinite. When the infinitely powerful God took on a human body with human blood, did not His blood assume infinite power? Which is greater: your blood or His? Don’t you know that His blood can break every evil contract, heal every disease, and atone for every sin? His blood, shed on the cross, overpowers and cancels your blood, even blood scribbled on a contract.

This would make sense if theologians are right. Based on Ezekiel 28:13 (KJV) (and other passages), some theologians have surmised that Satan was in charge of music and worship in Heaven before rebelling against God and being cast down to hell. Since God’s gifts are irrevocable (Romans 11:29), Satan likely still retains his gift of music, which he can share with his minions to (try to) destroy God’s Kingdom.

There is one sin that is unforgiveable: blaspheming the Holy Spirit. It is unclear what that means. Some have said that it is to not believe in Jesus after seeing miracles done by Holy Spirit. In the spirit of Hebrews 6, I personally believe it may have to do with those Christians who walk in miracles and yet fall away (eg, into materialism or disbelief or Satanism) or who use the miracles to build their own kingdom, rather than The Kingdom. Taking Matthew 12:31-32 at face value, it may mean those who openly curse the name of Holy Spirit. Regardless of what it means, all of these are very rare.
